Public Memorials - Sir William Glasgow

Sir William Glasgow

The bronze statue of one of Queensland's finest sons was erected in Roma St. in 1966 and because of subsequent road works over the years, it stood isolated by Turbot, Roma and Albert Streets. When the Inner Northern Tunnel section was being built it was decided to relocate the bronze to Post Office Square where his effigy now stands atop a new plinth overlooking Anzac Square.

This memorial was designed by Dennis Magee and erected in 1998.  The memorial comprises three triangular based pillars of two sections each.  Each pillar is polished to a high gloss and engraved with the crest of each individual service.  Granite light bollards skirt the driveway which surrounds a circular paved area with slabs of Ariah Park Gold granite in the centre, opening in the form of a lotus flower.  Fibre optics have been used to illuminate the face of the pillars and Crests  as well as the centre piece of the Ariah Park Gold centre.
